Course Baking, Dessert
Cuisine English
Servings 6 people

Ingredients

  • 500 grams apples , peeled and cut into 1cm slices
  • 500 grams blackberries , fresh or frozen
  • 1 tbsp coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 80 grams butter (1/3 cup)
  • 1/3 cup blanched almond meal
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup whole almonds

Instructions

  • If using frozen blackberries first defrost them in a colander to drain extra liquid. This will take a couple of hours or you can put them in the fridge the night before to defrost.
  • Preheat oven to 200C.
  • Combine the apples, blackberries, 1 tsp cinnamon and 1 tbsp sugar. Place in the bottom of a baking dish.
  • Dice the butter and then place it in a food processor along with the almond meal, 1/2 cup coconut sugar, 2 tsp cinnamon and vanilla. Pulse until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs. Add the whole almonds and process a little, so almonds are still quite chunky. Press the crumble mixture over the apples and blackberries quite firmly.
  • Bake the crumble for 30 minutes or until well browned. Serve warm with cream, ice cream, custard or creme fraiche.

Recipe options:

  • You can use so many different fruits in this recipe. Plums, rhubarb, pears, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries would all be lovely.
  • Vary the spices or nuts in the crumble. Try cardamom, allspice, nutmeg, ginger, hazelnuts, pistachios, pecans or macadamias.
