We are here to support the health & wellbeing of the community as the virus makes its rounds in Sydney.
The Health Emporium has an extensive herbal and nutritional dispensary brimming with immune supportive and protective practitioner-only products, so that you don’t have to go the virus alone. As the qualified, in-house naturopath at The Health Emporium, I am able to dispense these products to our customers, so please visit (or call us if you’re isolating) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays & Saturdays from 8am to 4pm.
Here are just some of the types of herbs & nutrients that could aid you during this time:
Vitamin C: plays an important role in both virus pre and post exposure, Vitamin C is a wonderful immune-enhancer.
Zinc: essential for both our innate and adaptive immune responses, zinc aids the correct development and function of some of the body’s immune cells.
Vitamin D: deficiency in Vitamin D is rampant, and unfortunately, insufficient levels of this vitamin are linked to and increased risk of acquiring Covid-19.
Probiotics: Studies have found that low levels of Bifidobacterium in the gut can predispose individuals to Covid-19, and increase its severity. The Covid virus also depletes the microbiome of Bifidobacterium, so whether or not you’ve had Covid, some gut support may greatly benefit you.
Echinacea: When you think of herbs and immunity, no doubt Echinacea comes to mind! This lovely herb can increase the body’s white blood cells, which are the immune cells that fight infection.
Andrographis: this bitter herb is indicated in acute-viral states, and is suitable for short-term use. Interestingly, the Thailand government has actually officially approved Andrographis as treatment for mild and asymptomatic Covid patients following successful trials.
Turmeric: the main active constituent in turmeric, curcumin, is an anti-inflammatory powerhouse. Curcumin has shown antiviral capability against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and improves clinical patient outcomes. Curcumin has made it onto the medically-accepted FLCCC protocol, which can be found on Google for further reading.
Medicinal Mushrooms: The Health Emporium stocks a large range of high-quality medicinal mushroom powders, including from Superfeast. These mushrooms are full of beta-glucans, a kind of polysachharide which gives the herb their immune-supporting benefits. The likes of Reishi, Turkey Tail, Cordyceps & Chaga can be useful in both virus prevention and to help build you back up if you have been knocked around.
Food as Medicine: whilst at The Health Emporium, it’s a great idea to stock up on immune-supportive fresh ginger, manuka honey, organic garlic, bone broth, and kefir. The kitchen Is oftentimes our greatest pharmacy!
And don’t forget the fundamentals for good health and staving off illness: plenty of rest, sunshine, and stress management!
As a qualified naturopathic practitioner, I can assist you in finding the correct remedies, form and dose for you. I look forward to seeing you in-store!
